In order to produce military vehicles in Peru, the Army Weapons and Ammunition Factory (FAME S.A.C.) —a company belonging to the Defense Ministry— and South Korea's STX CorporationHyundai Rotem signed an agreement that will allow the setting up of an assembly plant for producing said units in our country and the corresponding technology transfer.

"We are witnessing a significant milestone on the path towards strengthening our national industry, especially the Defense sector," said President Dina Boluarte who was present at the signing ceremony along with Defense Minister Walter Astudillo.

The event —which reaffirms the Government's commitment to strengthening the military industry— was also attended by Production Minister Sergio Gonzales; Army General Commander Cesar Briceño; Army General Staff Chief and FAME S.A.C. Board Chairman, Division General Orestes Vargas; South Korea's Ambassador to Peru, Choi Jong-Uk; among other authorities.

Said Framework Agreement for Associative Collaboration and Technology Transfer in Business was signed by FAME S.A.C. General Manager, Army Colonel Jorge Zapata; STX Corporation CEO, Sungjun Park; and Hyundai Rotem CEO, Yongbae Lee.

The Peruvian Head of State indicated that this agreement constitutes a key step in building better and safer future.

"Thanks to this (agreement), we will increase personnel's capacity and generate great savings for Peru, since these vehicles will no longer be acquired from abroad. This way, we reaffirm our total commitment to national security, defense, sovereignty, and, therefore, to boosting our military industry," she indicated.

The South Korean ambassador highlighted the signing of this agreement, ensuring that cooperation between Peru and his country, especially in the field of Defense, is outstanding.

"This strategic alliance represents an important step to modernize the Armed Forces and the Peruvian National Police through cutting-edge technology that FAME will apply to the development of its own capacity, through cooperation with (South) Korean companies," he expressed.

In turn, FAME Board Chairman, Division General Orestes Vargas, also highlighted the benefits of this agreement, indicating that "this alliance represents a comprehensive strategy that ranges from strengthening our military capabilities to expanding our commitments with humanitarian attention to fellow citizens."

This agreement will allow the transfer of knowledge and cutting-edge technologies in the military field, one of the most notable aspects being the implementation of an assembly plant at the FAME S.A.C. facilities, located in Lima's Lurigancho district, for the production of military vehicles.

In addition to infrastructure, this agreement establishes comprehensive training programs for FAME S.A.C. staff and, collaboratively, for Peruvian Army members at the multinational company's headquarters in South Korea.

The training programs will not only focus on the handling and assembly of new vehicles but also include advanced learning techniques in logistics, maintenance, and military operations.

This event took place at the Army Headquarters in the Peruvian capital, Lima, on Monday evening.
