Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday morning expressed his commitment to improving healthcare services on the coast, highlands, and jungle.
According to the newly sworn-in leader, all this will be made possible through close cooperation with municipal and regional authorities.
Speaking from Edgardo Rebagliati Hospital while visiting a relative, Mr.
Vizcarra stressed the need to look at health problems more closely so as to find solutions that tackle deficiencies in favor of the population.
His relative was transferred to Lima from a healthcare facility in southern Moquegua region following a gastrointestinal bleeding. The person is out of danger after being given the necessary care.
In a brief dialogue with people outside the hospital, Mr. Vizcarra talked to a woman whose father underwent the amputation of both of his legs. The President offered to put the entire hospital at their service.
"Let me express my support at this difficult moment. Yet as grim as the situation is, we need to keep two things in mind: your father's assistance and quality of care, and second, the possibility of a medical malpractice case," Peru's top official pointed out.
He affirmed both the patient's care needs and the identification of medical responsibilities will be addressed at the same time.
