The
President of the Republic, Jose Jeri, on Tuesday inspected military bases of the Valley of Apurimac, Ene, and Mantaro Rivers (VRAEM) Special Command, which combat terrorist remnants and drug trafficking in this area of the country.
The Head of State first visited the Mazamari military base in Satipo province, Junin region, before travelling to the Pichari military base in La Convencion province, Cusco region.
According to the Presidential Office, this visit aims to strengthen the work carried out by the Armed Forces and the Peruvian National Police in the fight against terrorist remnants and drug trafficking.
The top official was accompanied on this working visit by Cabinet Chief Ernesto Alvarez; Ministers Vicente Tiburcio (Interior), Cesar Diaz Pech (Defense), and Aldo Prieto (Transportation-Communications); as well as Joint Command of the Armed Forces Chief, General David Ojeda.
The VRAEM spans the Valley of Apurimac, Ene, and Mantaro Rivers in Junin and Cusco regions.
As the President himself announced, he will travel across the country during his term.
On this occasion, he visits the VRAEM area, where terrorist remnants and drug trafficking mafias are still active.
