During the debate at the 12th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer reported on the strategic actions implemented by Peru to combat this scourge.

In this regard, the government official indicated that our country has implemented, at the national level, measures such as updating plans and programs against organized crime and money laundering, reviewing criminal legislation, as well as training law enforcement and justice operators.

"All of this is aimed at effectively confronting new forms of crime," Ambassador Schialer stated virtually.

The diplomat asserted that Peru continues to promote, at a regional level, strategies such as the Resolute Action Plan on Transnational Organized Crime of Andean Community nations and the First Presidency of the South American Wildlife Enforcement Network (SudWEN), which is currently held by our country.

"Peru, a country committed to the Global Development Agenda, has turned the fight against transnational organized crime into one of the central axes of its domestic and foreign political agenda," Schialer underscored.

In this regard, the Cabinet member noted that Peru welcomes the recent adoption, last August, of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime text, signed in New York.

Lastly, he said that Peru, along with Brazil and France, has presented to the 12th Conference a draft resolution to strengthen the global fight against environmental crimes.

It raises the creation of a group of experts to propose improvements in international regulations, including the possibility of incorporating new protocols.
