on Wednesday stated that her administration is committed to agriculture. Thus, it has allocated a 2025 opening budget of S/3.360 billion (about US$912 million) to the
—the highest amount this sector has received in recent years.
Mrs. Boluarte made this announcement during the signing of the transfer contract for the right-bank irrigation project of the Tumbes River held at the Government Palace. This event saw the participation of Midagri's head, Angel Manero, and Tumbes Governor Segismundo Cruces.
In her speech, the Head of State emphasized that the irrigation project aims to benefit over 300,000 farmers in Tumbes, who cultivate high-demand products such as rice, limes, bananas, and cacao.
Similarly, the top official detailed that this initiative will enhance irrigation on 4,000 hectares in the northern region and expand the agricultural frontier by an additional 21,000 hectares.
"With this transfer, Midagri assumes responsibility for the project's formulation unit, investment execution unit, and, most importantly, its implementation," Mrs. Boluarte said.
"This will increase production and contribute to improving incomes and profitability for producers in the region," she added.
The President underscored that her administration has allocated an initial budget of S/ 3.360 billion (about US$912 million) to Midagri.
She indicated that 45% of these resources are aimed at investments, which will fund more than 190 projects nationwide.
"Minister (Angel Manero), we have an unwavering commitment to Tumbes. Let us not rest until we fulfill it. Our Government stands with agriculture," Mrs. Boluarte stated.
The President also underscored the importance of investing in the northern region, as it serves as one of the country's main entry points, along with Tacna in the south.
"We must invest in our borders and recognize their integrated value, so we can proudly say: this is Tumbes, this is Tacna, and so is Peru," she concluded.
