Following a meeting held in Lima on Friday, Foreign Affairs Ministers Elmer Schialer (Peru) and Laura Sarabia (Colombia) agreed to hold the Presidential Meeting and the 7th Binational Cabinet between the two countries this year.

"The Foreign Affairs ministers agreed to subsequently hold the Presidential Meeting and the 7th Binational Cabinet in Peru in 2025," the joint declaration signed by both government officials stated.

Similarly, the high-ranking officials expressed their satisfaction with the recent appointment of ambassadors in their respective countries, whose assumption of duties will elevate bilateral relations to the level befitting the ties between Peru and Colombia.

Given the security situation stemming from transnational organized crime affecting the region, the ministers committed to strengthening dialogue, coordination, and bilateral cooperation.

Additionally, at the Andean level, the Cabinet members pledged to continue working within the framework of the Resolute Action Plan adopted by the Andean Community in January 2024.

They also agreed to strengthen Latin American unity processes by ensuring regional and subregional integration, boosting efforts within the framework of the Andean Community, the Pacific Alliance, the Brasília Consensus, the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), and the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization, among others.

Moreover, the ministers reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and highlighted the historic ties uniting both countries, based on the promotion and defense of democracy, full respect for human rights and the rule of law, adherence to international law, and a commitment to justice and social inclusion.

"They highlighted the close cooperation in support of border populations, as well as the importance of continuing to promote development and integration projects approved within the framework of the Binational Commission for the Peru-Colombia Border Integration Zone," the joint declaration indicated.

"This renewed boost to bilateral relations will decisively contribute to improving the well-being of both nations," it added.
