Peru welcomes Edmundo Gonzalez upon arrival in Lima

Peru welcomes the President-elect of Venezuela, Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, as well as salutes his leadership and unwavering fight for the restoration of democratic institutions in his country of origin.

This was stated by the Presidency of the Republic in a message disseminated via social media Tuesday night. 

"With this visit, Peru reaffirms its commitment to defending human rights and the guarantee and protection of the fundamental freedoms of the Venezuelan people. Welcome, Edmundo!" the Presidential Office said.

The Venezuelan politician was received by Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer, who confirmed to the media Gonzalez's arrival in Peru.

The Head of State, Dina Boluarte, will meet with the President-elect of Venezuela as part of his visit to Peru.

The meeting will take place at the Government Palace in Lima today at 11:45 a.m. (local time), according to the Presidential Office Strategic Communication and Press Secretariat.
