Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau commended the solidity of Peru’s economic situation and democracy.

The Canadian dignitary held a meeting with Peruvian President Dina Boluarte, within the framework of his stay in Lima, where he participated in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders' Week. The bloc's event ended on Saturday.

During the meeting, topics of bilateral interest such as the promotion of investment and tourism were also addressed, the Peruvian Presidential Office reported.

Canada is Peru's fourth-largest trading partner worldwide.

In the first half of 2024, Peruvian exports to Canada reached US$1.695 billion. This figure represented a 27.1% increase compared to the same period in 2023.

Trade agreements founded on respect

During his participation at APEC, Mr. Trudeau spoke at the CEO Summit of the economies that make up this bloc.

At that event, he called for free trade agreements signed within the Asia-Pacific region to include respect for the environment, women's rights, labor rights, and Indigenous-native peoples.
