flew over the basins of the Chillon, Rimac and Lurin Rivers in Lima region to supervise the state of the riverbeds, verify the results of preventive works, and coordinate measures in anticipation of possible floods and landslides.
"The heavy rains have been mitigated by preventive works. We hope this situation remains under control. There is heavy rainfall activity in the country's interior (zones), where the Executive Branch is responding through the National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci)," Adrianzen stated on Thursday afternoon.
The Prime Minister underscored that the rivers remain within their banks. He added that heavy rains have been mitigated by the preventive works carried out.
Likewise, Adrianzen indicated that beyond the basins in Lima, heavy rainfall has occurred in the country’s interior. Therefore, Indeci, along with the Armed Forces, is being deployed to the affected areas to prevent the situation from worsening.
In turn, the Defense minister highlighted the coordinated response of the three levels of government in prevention activities.
In this regard, Astudillo mentioned that in previous years machinery was purchased for the Peruvian Army, as well as for the National Water Authority; the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation; the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation; which -he underlined- has ensured adequate capacity.
"I think this is an example, a model of what happens when work is done in advance and the necessary capabilities are in place to provide an appropriate response," he pointed out.
