Peruvian Congress Chairman Eduardo Salhuana highlighted the solid relationship between Peru and the United States, during the meeting "Strengthening Ties Between Utah and Peru," held at Parliament headquarters in Lima on Thursday.

This event brought together several Peruvian legislators, Utah State Senator Derrin Owens, and Utah House of Representatives member Walter C. Brooks.

The Congress head stressed that the diplomatic relationship between both nations dates back 200 years, starting in 1824, shortly after Peru's independence (1821).

The top legislator noted that this collaboration has not only enabled a friendship bond but also important economic ties, including the signing of the Free Trade Agreement, which has consolidated the
United States as Peru's second most-important trading partner.

Salhuana underlined that Peru and the United States share democratic values and a commitment to the rule of law, both aspiring to establish a social market economy.

Likewise, he highlighted Peru's macroeconomic stability, its international reserves, and the significant exports growth, especially of agricultural products, which have increased from US$600 million in 2000 to US$6.50 billion in the past year.

Furthermore, Salhuana mentioned the diversification of Peruvian economy, emphasizing the importance of mining, given that our country not only produces minerals but is also a significant exporter of gold, silver, and zinc.

Moreover, he reaffirmed that the relationship with the United States remains essential for Peru's development and economic strengthening.

In turn, Congresswoman Silvia Monteza expressed her enthusiasm for welcoming a group of visitors from Utah, emphasizing the importance of the relations between both places.

Monteza underscored that Peru is a country full of opportunities, rich in minerals, which can strengthen trade ties.

She also reaffirmed our country's willingness to continue opening doors, as well as fostering fluid and beneficial bilateral trade between Peru and Utah.

The meeting was attended by legislators Jeny Lopez (Popular Force); Silvia Monteza and Carlos Alva Rojas (Popular Action); Carlos Anderson and Maricarmen Alva Prieto (independents).

Also participating were Jared Morris Anderson, Global Business Services Leader – World Trade Center Utah; Alexander Duke Rigby, Business Development Manager – Intermountain Technologies; Eduardo Andres Reyes Bade, Director of Operations at OgdenXr – Chile; and others.
