Peru's BCR: Remittances from abroad up 7% in 3Q 2024

16:09 | Lima, Nov. 25.

Remittances from Peruvian workers abroad totaled US$1.231 billion in the third quarter of 2024, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) has reported.

This increase represents a 7% growth compared to the same quarter of the previous year, the issuing entity indicated.

During this period, the United States continued to be the main source of remittances and the one with the greatest increase due to the recovery of employment in the North American country.

The increase in remittances via electronic wallets, such as Yape (10% of the total remitted by BCP), stands out. These transactions are encouraged by the interoperability of the payment system.

Remittances during the third quarter were equivalent to 1.7% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), similar to those of the same quarter of the previous year, the BCR reported.
