The election of Peru as venue for the 70th Meeting of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Regional Commission proves the importance of our country for world tourism,
Foreign Trade-Tourism Minister Juan Carlos Mathews has highlighted.
In this sense, the Cabinet member stressed that Peru is one of the most mega-diverse nations on the planet. Similarly, it has history, traditions, culture, and exceptional gastronomy.
"The Peruvian Government will work intensively to make this event be held in a great manner. Our country relies on first-class infrastructure that is highly suitable for the meetings tourism segment," Mathews expressed.
"Holding the 70th Meeting of the UNWTO Regional Commission for the Americas will boost our country's image and generate revenue for the tourism chain. Besides, it will strengthen us in the spaces for international cooperation," he added.
It is important to appreciate that Peru relies on first-class hotel infrastructure, as well as tourist services, air and land connectivity, in addition to incomparable gastronomy, which will make this event develop in an unbeatable manner.
Election
"The selection of Peru as the venue for the subsequent meeting of the CAM represents an important showcase to position the country, its people, its resources, and its potential, as a suitable destination for major events. Besides, this allows us to strengthen ourselves in the spaces for international cooperation in tourism," Burns indicated.
Program and Budget Committee
At the closing of this event, Peru was also able to renew its participation in the "Program and Budget Committee" and managed to get a place in the Working Group on "Redesigning Tourism for the Future."
These results will contribute to strengthening the technical work carried out by
Mincetur to boost the reactivation of tourism, increase opportunities for international cooperation, and continue sharing regional expertise to boost the attraction of international tourists to both Peru and the region.
In this sense, it should be considered that the aforementioned Working Group is made up of two representatives from each UNWTO regional commission, with Peru and Uruguay being the representatives of the Americas.
It should be mentioned that regional commissions meet once a year and are made up of all the Full and Associate Member States of each region.
In the case of the Americas, the last session brought together 20 countries, whose representatives committed to exercising more ethical and inclusive tourism.
Seminars
Within this framework, Peru also participated in the "Sustainable Investments Seminar," a space that addressed issues related to green investments, tourism infrastructure, mega investments, and smart cities.
Deputy Minister Burns attended the ministerial panel as a speaker. There, she shared the experience of Peru in the search for a balance among economic growth, tourism development, as well as the preservation of natural and cultural resources.
