The President of the Republic of Armenia, Vahagn Khachaturyan visited the facilities of Editora Peru on Tuesday and toured the Andina News Agency and the Official Gazette El Peruano, which is nearing its 200th anniversary.

Khachaturyan was received by Felix Paz Quiroz, Acting General Manager and Director of News Media, with whom he discussed the bilateral relations between the two nations and the opportunities to establish a media cooperation agreement.

"I welcome you to Editora Peru. We are a company that operates two media outlets: The Official Gazette El Peruano, which is about to turn 200 years old and is the oldest newspaper on the continent, and Andina, the official news agency of the Peruvian State," said Paz.

The Armenian president highlighted the importance of the press in allowing states to communicate their work to the public, as well as the history that both Peru and Armenia share, two nations that should continue deepening their ties.

"Yesterday, we had a brief meeting with President Dina Boluarte, where we emphasized that we are ancient societies. We have the opportunity to foster closer relations, strengthen our ties, and start a new chapter in our relationship," said the Armenian leader.

Khachaturyan noted that Armenia has its own news agency, Armenpress, which publishes content in multiple languages, including Spanish, and is consulted by several countries in Latin America.

In this context, the Armenian President expressed confidence that a news cooperation agreement with Peru’s Andina News Agency could be completed soon.

"I am happy to take this opportunity to visit a newspaper that has been preserved for so long. I will congratulate you further at a later time, but today I want to extend my greetings," he stated.

He also mentioned that one of the instruments that could strengthen relations between Armenia and Peru is an agreement to eliminate the visa requirement for tourism travel between the two countries, which would increase visitor flow.

Cooperation Agreement

Meanwhile, Felix Paz stated that this visit has helped deepen bilateral relations between Peru and Armenia and provided an opportunity to discuss topics such as the economy, tourism, and the ancient heritage that characterizes both nations.

He stated that, as part of Editora Peru's strategic vision to share Peruvian news internationally, an agreement with Armenia’s news agency is nearing completion to establish a mechanism for journalistic cooperation.

Paz pointed out that this Armenian media outlet has a Spanish-language edition that could be enhanced with content from Andina.

“Documents, legal aspects, and diplomatic considerations are currently under review. We hope to sign the agreement this year. They have even proposed that it be signed as part of El Peruano's 200th-anniversary celebrations in October,” he affirmed.

Accompanied by the Director of News Media, the Armenian President and his delegation toured El Peruano's Graphic Museum, where they observed the old rotary presses used for printing the newspaper, as well as historical front pages that showcase its 200 years of reporting in Peru.

The Armenian leader viewed the Graphic Museum with great interest and recalled "journalistic activities in his country from years ago. He pointed out that it is important to celebrate El Peruano's 200th anniversary, given its significance in Peru and Latin America," Paz detailed.

As part of El Peruano bicentennial celebrations, Paz announced that traveling exhibitions will be held in 14 cities across the country, including Lima and some districts, with activities continuing into the next year. As a memento of his visit, Paz presented the Armenian President with a facsimile of El Peruano's first edition, published on Saturday, October 22, 1825.

In turn, the Armenian dignitary signed the guestbook for distinguished visitors at Editora Perú.
