The murder occurred when the victim was outside his home in Ica's San Isidro neighborhood, talking with a friend.
There he was caught off guard by a man riding a motorcycle, who shot the journalist several times in the body, leaving him lying on the ground. His acquaintance, Edwin Uchuya, was slightly injured.
The Public Prosecutor's Office stated that Provincial Prosecutor Anyela Salazar Alca ordered a series of urgent and unpostponable proceedings after learning what had occurred, such as ordering the removal of the corpse, with the support of Criminal Prosecutor on Duty Rosalyn Zuñiga from the Third Unit of the Second Provincial Criminal Prosecutor's Office in Ica.
The Provincial Prosecutor then gathers statements from witnesses and the victim's relatives.
It also ordered the affected individual to undergo an atomic absorption test; seized cell phones; and requested the gathering of security footage from the area where the events had occurred.
In addition, the police secured the seizure of mobile phones and reviewed information from the journalist's social media accounts to contextualize the events, among other investigative actions.
Lastly, the Public Ministry indicated that the Prosecutor's Offices Specialized in Human Rights and Interculturality have national jurisdiction to investigate crimes such as homicide, serious injuries, and extortion against journalists, among other common offenses that constitute grave human rights violations.
