The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement regarding the minimum documentation required for requests for humanitarian assistance and repatriation.

The government agency issued these clarifications in response to statements made concerning the requirement of a "poverty certificate" for the repatriation of a minor in a vulnerable situation.

"In the case of applications for the 'financial subsidy for repatriation of citizens in extreme poverty or indigence,' Supreme Decree 063-2016-RE requires that interested parties present a 'poverty certificate,' which can be obtained from the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis) or any parish in their last place of residence," reads the statement issued on Sunday.

In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that a proposal to amend the aforementioned Supreme Decree is under evaluation, with the aim of making this requirement more flexible for fellow citizens who are affected by deportations.

It also explained what documents are required when it is not a subsidy, but rather humanitarian assistance provided by consulates for compatriots in highly vulnerable situations.

In this case, the requirements include the submission of a simple sworn statement by the interested party, explaining the specific situation of vulnerability, as well as extreme and immediate need, for prompt evaluation by the consul general.
