President Dina Boluarte on Monday highlighted the role of the Peruvian Army in maintaining peace, unity, dignity, and sovereignty in the country, as today marks the 208th Anniversary of the Birth of Colonel Francisco Bolognesi and Peruvian Soldiers' Day.

"May this Anniversary of the Birth of Colonel Francisco Bolognesi and Peruvian Soldiers' Day inspire us all to work for a strong and determined Peru, and to never give up in the face of adversity, especially against Peru's enemies, such as the remnants of terrorism, drug trafficking, and crime," Mrs. Boluarte stated.

The president said that "we have declared war on these criminal acts, and we will fight until the last cartridge is burned, until we achieve victory for the tranquility of all our compatriots."

In this regard, the top official emphasized that tranquility in Peru is essential for continuing to bring development to areas where the State's presence has been awaited for years and is only now being achieved through concrete projects and deeds.

"We will continue to fight, always taking up Bolognesi's legacy and defending the values he represents to forge a better future for Peru and all Peruvians,” Mrs. Boluarte said.

"We will always do so humbly, courageously, as well as with immense and endearing love for the homeland," she stated.

Bolognesi and his legacy

The president said that Bolognesi's words at the Battle of Arica, referring to fulfilling his sacred duties to the homeland until the last cartridge is burned, are not an echo of the past but a call to act, as well as to remain firm in principles and defend the nation courageously.

Within this framework, she specified that the Army continues this legacy by defending the national interest and collaborating on security in those areas declared in state of emergency.

"Today, we remember Bolognesi's birthday and, at the same time, the Day of Peruvian Soldiers who, with dedication and commitment, continue their legacy, dedicating their lives to serving and protecting the nation. True greatness is not only experienced in a battle won but also through the love and service offered to the homeland," she stated.

The ceremony for the 208th Anniversary of Bolognesi's Birth and Peruvian Soldiers' Day was also attended by Cabinet Chief Gustavo Adrianzen and Defense Minister Walter Astudillo.
