Canadian singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes is in Cusco, where he toured the Imperial City and visited the Machu Picchu archaeological complex.

Social media users on Instagram, Tiktok, and Twitter shared photographs and videos of the pop star, taken on the streets of Cusco, in Aguas Calientes, and in the llaqta of the Inca citadel.

They show the artist alongside Ecuadorian activist Helena Gualinga, of Quechua descent who, together with her sister Nina, runs campaigns in favor of the rights of indigenous peoples and the Amazonia.

Mendes and Gualinga arrived in the city of Cusco on Saturday from Ecuador, where the singer reportedly welcomed the year 2025.

The artist was immediately recognized by the public at Jose Velasco Astete Airport, who asked to take photos with him.

On Sunday, the singer and the activist were spotted and photographed both on the train to Machu Picchu and around the citadel.

At the site, the pop star agreed to take photographs with some visitors.

Returning in April

Mendes will return to Peru in April. On the 21 of that month, he is scheduled to perform at the Costa 21 venue in Lima's San Miguel district, as part of the tour promoting his most recent album, titled ‘Shawn.’

The upcoming concert will mark the reunion of the performer of 'If I Can't Have You' with fans, following his first visit to Lima back in 2019.
