The Government of Peru on Wednesday extended its warmest greetings to the citizens and Government of the People's Republic of China on the occasion of the Lunar New Year.

"May the Year of the Wood Snake be one of success, abundance, and happiness for everyone. Happy Lunar New Year!" the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed via X.

Today, January 29, marks the beginning of the Chinese New Year 2025, which is represented by the Wood Snake.

To welcome the new year and early spring, China's families decorate their freshly-cleaned homes with touches of red.

People light red lanterns and hang red couplets.

To ward off Nian, a beast known to be afraid of loud noises, crackling sounds and firecrackers are heard throughout the night.
