The Government of Peru expressed its dismay and condemnation of the recent massacres carried out by criminal gangs in the Cité Soleil and Petite Rivière neighborhoods of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, from December 6 to 11, which claimed the lives of around 280 people, including elderly individuals and children.
The government agency on Friday night stated that "Peru extends its solidarity to the Haitian people and government," in addition to issuing "a call for these acts of barbarity to cease for the sake of the well-being and development of the Haitian population."
Similarly, it joins the
UN Secretary-General's
call on Haitian authorities to continue investigating these incidents and to bring those responsible to justice.
"Peru will continue participating in multilateral initiatives to support Haiti, with the aim of fostering a solution to the deep multidimensional crisis that said country is experiencing," reads the document.
