The Peruvian Government is closely following the latest developments in Syria, after the fall of the dictatorial regime of Bashar al-Assad —who was in power for the past 24 years— and the ongoing formation of a new government.
The
Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement Thursday night
calling for the transfer of power in Syria to prioritize the security and well-being of the civilian population, without distinction of any kind, as well as full respect for international law.
"The Peruvian Government urges the international community to ensure the preservation of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, in accordance with the obligations arising from the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement," the document emphasized.
Peru also supports the
United Nations Secretary-General's commitment to help the Syrian people build a country where reconciliation, justice, freedom, and prosperity are a shared reality for all.
