The President of the Republic, Jose Maria Balcazar, led a coordination meeting with the participation of Defense Minister Carlos Diaz and senior Armed Forces commanders, in order to strengthen decision-making on strategic and national-interest matters.

Among those present were Prime Minister Luis Arroyo; Chief of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces, Army General Cesar Briceño; as well as the General Commanders of the Army, Oswaldo Calle Talledo, and the Air Force, Air General Mario Contreras.

The Navy Chief of Staff, Vice Admiral Julio Cesar Cacho, and the High Commissioner for the fight against illegal mining, retired Air Force Lieutenant General Rodolfo Garcia Esquerre, participated in the event.

During the meeting, presentations were delivered on actions undertaken by the sector—including the fight against illegal mining and emergency response to heavy rainfall across several regions—as part of efforts to strengthen the political and strategic leadership of national defense.

Likewise, information was provided on military operations in the Valley of Apurimac, Ene, and Mantaro Rivers (Vraem), Pataz, Putumayo, La Pampa, and Tambopata.

A review of Armed Forces support to the National Police to strengthen security was also presented.

The government and the Defense sector reaffirm their commitment to ensuring national security, supporting internal order, and providing a timely response to emergencies, for the benefit of all Peruvians.
