The ICJ is also known as "the Hague Court."
Minister Schialer noted that Peru has not had a judge on this international body in over 50 years.
The diplomat recalled that the illustrious former President of the Republic, Jose Luis Bustamante y Rivero, served on this Court between 1961 and 1970, and presided over it from 1967 to 1969.
Similarly, the ambassador
highlighted the qualities of Dr. Ibañez, who was elected as a judge at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in 2017 with the support of 77 states. She served as its Vice-President from 2021 to 2024.
"The election of Dr. Luz Ibañez Carranza would not only be a recognition of her impeccable career (…), but also a manifestation of our nation's firm commitment to international law, equity, and social peace," he stated.
The event was held at Torre Tagle Palace in the Peruvian capital, Lima, on Friday.
