Peru's Fin Min: We will continue backing Works for Taxes, which may expand in June

13:00 | Lima, Feb. 28.

"We will continue to support the Works for Taxes (OxI) mechanism," Economy and Finance Minister Jose Salardi stated on Friday, adding that there could be an "additional trigger" for its expansion in June.

During the presentation of the La Libertad 2.0 event, where investment projects for the northern region were showcased, he mentioned that last year saw the first promotion of projects through Works for Taxes (OxI), a mechanism in which the regional governor has great confidence.

"Progress of over S/500 million (above US$136 million) was achieved, and now there will be projects worth approximately S/1.3 billion (US$354 million), made possible by the new Regional and Local Public Investment Certificate (CIPRL) cap," Salardi stated.

"As this space fills up faster, there will be an additional trigger in June to continue supporting Works for Taxes," he added.

The Executive Branch today approved, through a legal decree, an increase to S/46.185 billion (US$12.591 billion) in the maximum limit for issuing Regional and Local Public Investment Certificates (CIPRL).

This mechanism enables the execution of Works for Taxes projects at the regional and local government levels, as well as at public universities across all 25 Peruvian regions.

This adjustment represents a 37% increase compared to the last revision in November 2024. It will take effect on Saturday, according to Supreme Decree No. 028-2025-EF.

In this regard, Minister Salardi explained that this is the first unlocking of resource management, which will be used to modernize infrastructure and improve services in hospitals, roads, police stations, and water-sanitation infrastructure nationwide.
