The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Tuesday stated that her administration is prepared to handle emergencies caused by heavy rains in various parts of the country throughout 2025.

The Head of State made these remarks during the start of the multi-sector coordination meeting on the period of intense rains and associated dangers. This event was held at the National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) headquarters in Lima's Chorrillos district.

"The Government's interest is to protect our population, especially now in the southern part of Peru where the rains are intense. The Coastal El Niño (phenomenon) will certainly enter the north, though we are told it will be moderate in the coming years. However, we have taken precautions, as in the north we have supplies such as food, tents, etc.; we are prepared, and it cannot be said that we are not," she expressed.

Within this framework, the top official reiterated that the Executive Branch is focused on prevention in the event of heavy rains, as it has the necessary logistics to address any emergencies.

During the meeting, where reports were presented on the progress and preparations of various sectors for the rainy season, Mrs. Boluarte indicated that her Government has always stressed the importance of working in a preventive manner.

"We know what will happen due to the intensity of rains, but the Government's response must be quick," she stated.

In this regard, the President explained that the reason for gathering the authorities is to assess the progress of the work, as it is known that period of heaviest rains occurs between January and March.

"What we want to know is what officials are doing in response to this situation; that is why we are here, to listen to the reports, to hear about the progress of this preventive work; if there is no progress, it is time to step on the gas," she added.
