Peru's Machu Picchu: Nearly 300,000 tickets sold through the virtual platform

Nearly 300,000 tickets to visit the Inca city of Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail Network, located in Cusco region, have been sold through the Peruvian State's virtual platform tuboleto.cultura.pe since it came into operation on August 3 of this year, the Ministry of Culture reported Thursday.

The government agency added that the aforementioned platform also sold over 3,000 tickets to enter the Kuelap Monumental Archaeological Complex, located in Amazonas region.

According to the report, from August 3 to October 15, a total of 278,549 people purchased e-tickets through the platform to visit the Inca city of Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail Network.


Of that number, 30% of those who bought tickets are Peruvian citizens, while 70% are foreigners.


The Ministry of Culture stressed that the aforementioned State platform has 204,927 tickets available to enter Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail Network thru December 31 of this year. Thus, visitors are advised to plan their trip in advance.

Over 3,000 tourists visited Kuelap

It was also reported that since the Ministry of Culture on October 1 announced that tickets to visit the Kuelap Archaeological Monumental Complex (CAMK) and the Kuelap llaqta (fortress) were available on the State platform tuboleto.cultura.pe, as of October 17, 3,077 tickets have been sold, of which 90% are for national visitors and 10% for foreign ones.


According to the regulations, the archaeological complex receives 432 people per day to visit the llaqta located in the central part and where they can enter through the main gateway, enjoying the panoramic view of the main temple and appreciating the landscape's magic and its numerous bird species.

The llaqta of Kualap is the most important monument in northeastern Peru and its location, at the top of La Barreta Mountain, offers an unforgettable experience.

Customer Service Channel

Lastly, the Ministry of Culture indicated that it has implemented the customer service channel Tu boleto —a free service to provide personalized advice on information, queries, and/or suggestions that may arise when purchasing tickets to the Inca city of Machu Picchu, the Inca Trail Network, and Kuelap.

This channel is open Mondays to Sundays and holidays from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., through the phone lines: (01) 321 5555 (Peru) and +51 1 321 5555 (abroad) or by e-mail: tuboleto@cultura.gob.pe. The languages for assistance are Spanish, English, Italian, and Portuguese.

The creation of this platform seeks to improve the experience of citizens visiting archaeological sites managed by the Peruvian State, such as Machu Picchu and Kuelap, strengthening protection measures and entry control, being connected to the databases from the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec), the National Superintendence of Migrations (Migraciones), the Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur), and the National Service for Natural Areas Protected by the State (Sernanp).
