Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer stated that President Dina Boluarte's administration considers Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia as the President-elect of Venezuela and has reiterated its unwavering support in his fight for democracy.

"The Government of President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra considers Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia the President-elect of Venezuela and has reiterated its unwavering support in his fight for democracy," he said told RPP Noticias.

Likewise, Minister Schialer announced that, together with a dozen of his peers, he will participate in a meeting in Panama on Wednesday to analyze the next steps the international community will take regarding Venezuela.

As is known, January 10 is the date for the handover of power in that country. However, since Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia's victory in the 2024 elections was not recognized, Nicolas Maduro would be sworn in to begin a third term, leading to protests being announced.

Minister Schialer indicated that he will travel to Panama tonight to attend the gathering. He added that the chiefs of diplomacy of countries such as Ecuador, Costa Rica, Paraguay, the United States, Chile, and Guatemala have confirmed their participation.

He indicated that, in cases where the Foreign Affairs minister is absent, the countries will be represented by their ambassadors, which may be the case with Brazil.

The Peruvian Cabinet member stressed that the solution must be "genuinely Venezuelan," without any direct or indirect intervention from abroad, in accordance with the declaration signed by more than 21 countries in Santo Domingo on August 16, 2024.

Moreover, he stressed that Gonzalez Urrutia is the President-elect of Venezuela and that, in the videoconference held recently with President Dina Boluarte, this was mentioned on different occasions.

The minister also said that during the conversation, Peru's top official reiterated her unwavering support for him and his compatriot Maria Corina Machado in their fight for democracy.

"That support will continue," Schialer expressed.
