The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte announced that the Government is making a historic investment worth S/511 million (over US$131 million) for the construction of six Bicentennial Schools in Puno region, southern Peru.

"They will be ready next year and offer modern facilities built in accordance with new pedagogical guidelines, benefiting more than 5,600 students; one of these Bicentennial Schools will be located in Yunguyo," she indicated.

The announcement was made during the enactment of the law that creates Universidad Nacional Fronteriza Autonoma de Yunguyo (National Autonomous Border University of Yunguyo) in Puno region.

The higher education institution will not only benefit citizens in the south of the aforementioned region, such as El Collao and Chucuito, as it will also receive students from Tacna and Moquegua regions.

Due to its strategic location, it will allow academic exchange with Bolivia and other neighboring countries.

"In Yunguyo, we will cultivate the talent and creativity that will lead us to confront and overcome the challenges of the 21st century. Research and innovations to benefit the whole of Peru will be fostered," Mrs. Boluarte noted.

"To the youth of Puno and the border areas, I say: 'you are our homeland's present, hope, and strength,'" she expressed.

Likewise, the top official highlighted the coordinated work aimed at making the dream of thousands of Puno residents come true.

"This project would not have been possible without the strong support from Congress and the joint efforts by local and regional authorities. I deeply appreciate your collaboration and shared vision of a fairer and more united Peru," she emphasized.

The National Autonomous Border University of Yunguyo was declared of national interest on May 29, via Law No. 32039, issued by Congress.

This educational institution will offer undergraduate programs in Economics, Accounting, Agricultural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Energy Resources Engineering, and Systems Engineering, among others.

This event took place at the Government Palace in the Peruvian capital, Lima, on Thursday evening.
