Central Reserve Bank (BCR) Governor Julio Velarde affirmed that the Peruvian Sol is the strongest currency in the region so far this year.

"The strongest currency in the region, this year, is the Peruvian Sol," Velarde said in remarks to the press on Thursday.

The BCR board chairman underscored that this currency has been strengthening against the U.S. Dollar in recent days.

However, Velarde said that it will be difficult to predict the Peruvian currency's future because the exchange market is subject to external factors.

It should be noted that the exchange rate reached a maximum of S/3.84 on the last day of June —a level not seen since the fortnight of February 2024.

After that, the Peruvian Sol has begun to gain ground against the U.S. Dollar, standing at S/3.80 on Wednesday, according to data from the BCR.

As Andina News Agency announced in advance, this pressure on the U.S. Dollar was temporary until the end of June due to the issuance of sovereign bonds up to an amount equivalent to US$3 billion by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF).
