President Dina Boluarte on Tuesday announced that the government will take measures to control employment contracts, rental agreements, and the income source of foreigners in Peru, as part of actions to ensure citizen security.

"We tell foreigners who are in the country that we will expel them from the national territory; we will not allow them to stay one more day. A total of 78 criminal gangs have been dismantled, and more than 1,800 criminals have been captured," she stated.

The top official explained that changes will be made at the National Superintendence of Migrations.

Mrs. Boluarte added that monitoring on the financial system and the remittances sent outside the country will be conducted to find out where their income comes from.

"We will conduct financial monitoring, and for those who do not respond appropriately, we will take action against them," she stated.

Likewise, the Head of State said that there will be controls on those who rent out their properties.

"We will work with the National Superintendence of Tax Administration (Sunat) to monitor those who rent out (their properties) and those who do not prove where their income comes from," she pointed out.

Call for unity

The president called for the unity of all Peruvians to protect the economic growth that has granted the country a strong and stable currency, which ensures the supply of products in markets.

"I will always call for unity among all; the doors of the (Government) Palace will be open for conversation and dialogue; even through our differences, we can conclude something positive for the homeland. Peru needs us all united and not divided," she stated.

In response to the strike called by a sector of transporters for Wednesday, the top official said that it is a constitutional measure, but that it will not solve the security problems facing this country.

"We must all stand united, as Peruvians, to safeguard this economic growth which proves that we have a strong currency, the cost of living in the country is stable, the products are available in the market, there is no shortage, we ensure that there is no shortage," she pointed out.

The Head of State said the Government will continue to work for public safety, adding that no effort will be spared to provide the Peruvian National Police (PNP) with the logistics it needs to combat crime.

"With the unity and trust that we generate abroad, we will welcome more investments, more taxes will be collected and distributed better for the peace of mind of all. We do not need hatred or violence; hatred and violence never generated anything positive," she noted.

Remarks were made by Mrs. Boluarte as she provided an assessment of her administration thus far in 2024.
