Peruvian Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Desilu Leon held a virtual meeting with Canadian International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu in order to consolidate bilateral relations and coordinate joint actions in strategic areas.

Minister Leon underscored that both countries share over 80 years of friendship and 16 years of cooperation under the Free Trade Agreement (FTA), an instrument that has boosted bilateral commerce and investment.

"In 2024, our trade reached a record of US$5 billion; in the first half of 2025 we have already surpassed US$3 billion, growing 10% compared to the same period last year," Leon stated.

"This confirms the dynamism and strength of our trade relationship," she noted.

Similarly, the Cabinet member reaffirmed the commitment to continue expanding this joint agenda.

Minister Leon emphasized that the FTA is a strategic pillar of the economic relationship, creating opportunities for companies in both countries.

Likewise, she noted that Canada is currently Peru's fifth-largest trading partner worldwide and one of the main destinations for its gold and coffee exports, as well as a key wheat supplier.

The two ministers also agreed to continue collaborating on joint initiatives to identify more opportunities for companies in both countries, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations in trade, investment, and tourism.

Minister Leon concluded the meeting by highlighting the commitment of both countries to consolidate a strategic agenda that strengthens bilateral and regional integration.

"Canada is a key partner for Peru, and together we will continue working to promote shared prosperity and greater resilience in international trade," she pointed out.
