invited Chinese companies to invest in Peru's telecommunications sector.
The initiatives consist of deploying approximately 2,500 kilometers of optical fiber in Cajamarca, Piura, and Tumbes regions to provide broadband internet access to 2,972 public institutions, including schools, health centers, and police stations located in 1,763 populated centers.
"We invite companies specializing in optical fiber deployment to participate in these projects in Cajamarca, Piura, and Tumbes, which will be launched for bidding under a public-private partnership (PPP) modality," Perez Reyes underscored.
"This proposal is the outcome of our efforts in digital inclusion, led by the President, presenting investment opportunities," he added.
Currently, Peru has 10 regional projects that provide internet and intranet access service to 4,590 public institutions (schools, healthcare establishments, and police stations) in 2,563 populated centers.
At this conference, the minister mentioned that his portfolio is working on structuring the tender for 5G technology frequency bands, which includes investment commitments estimated at US$845 million that will lead to reducing the digital gap and increase users' quality of life, as well as to enhancing productivity and competitiveness in Peru.
"The Peruvian State, through the MTC, is deploying telecommunications infrastructure and equipment to close the existing digital gap," Perez Reyes said.
"The Peruvian Government is interested in maintaining and strengthening bilateral relations with key partners such as China. It is the appropriate moment to enter a new phase of relations that will attract more investments into various sectors," he added.
The government official also highlighted the great advantage that exists in Peru to develop data center projects, since the South American country relies on optimal electric energy supply.
