The
stated that it has proposed attracting new airlines to operate routes to and from Peru, with the aim of increasing the flow of foreign tourists.
In this regard, the organization plans to participate in relevant events, such as Routes Americas 2025, to promote Peru as a key destination.
"This can be achieved by attending important air connectivity events where we can attract new airlines that wish to come to Peru, and that is necessary, especially with this new airport that we are going to have. Next month, together with the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, we will attend Routes Americas," she specified.
According to the official, the imminent opening of the Jorge Chavez International Airport, with greater capacity for passenger service, is seen as an opportunity for the entry of additional carriers.
"It will definitely be an airport with greater capacity than we currently have, and this opens the door for new airlines to enter or for more arrivals," she indicated.
Velasquez acknowledged the need to focus not only on Lima but also on the development of airports with good infrastructure at the regional level and on intraregional air connectivity.
"We need strong airports with proper regional infrastructure and intraregional air connectivity to foster the competitiveness of these destinations, without incurring high costs," she remarked.
According to PromPeru's spokesperson, achieving the expected growth figures for the sector will require good air connectivity with new airlines that can enter the market.
