The Government published today a law according to which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Peruvian consular offices abroad, will be able to issue ordinary electronic passports with a validity of 10 years to Peruvian citizens who request them.
The Law No. 32205, Law that modifies Law 31678 - Law that modifies Legislative Decree 1350, Legislative Decree on Migration in order to establish the validity of the ordinary electronic passport for 10 years, was published in the bulletin of Legal Regulations of the Official Gazette El Peruano.
The law indicates that passports with a validity of 10 years are delivered by the National Superintendence of Migration in national territory and by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the consular offices of Peru abroad, to citizens who request them at the end of the issuance of passports that are valid for 5 years.
With this reform, the aim is to optimize the process of issuing passports and make the management of travel documents more efficient, especially for Peruvians residing abroad.
This measure is endorsed by the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte and the president and first vice president of the Congress of the Republic, Eduardo Salhuana and Patricia Juárez, respectively.
