In recognition of Peru's commitment to climate action, the 63rd Session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) will be held in Lima during the last quarter of 2025.

This decision was made by acclamation during the recent 62nd IPCC Session held in Hangzhou, China, from February 24 to 28.

The upcoming event will bring together scientists and delegates from 195 countries, as well as representatives from observer organizations, to advance the development of the IPCC's Seventh Assessment Report.

Moreover, work will continue on a Special Report on Climate Change and Cities, along with two key methodological reports: one on Short-Lived Climate Forcers and another on Carbon Dioxide, both expected to be completed between 2027 and 2029.

Peru's designation as the host country for this session aligns with its foreign policy and national efforts in climate action.

As one of the most vulnerable countries to the adverse effects of climate change, Peru faces challenges that affect public health; ecosystem stability; biodiversity conservation; and the security of food, water, and energy resources; as well as the sustainability of key economic sectors.

The IPCC, established in 1988, is the leading international body responsible for assessing climate change and its impacts. Its reports and guidelines provide the scientific foundation for policy-making and the implementation of both the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement.

By hosting this session, Peru will reaffirm its commitment to the international community in combating climate change and strengthens its role as a key promoter of global solutions to this urgent challenge.
