Construction sector activity increased 7.1% year-on-year in July due to the greater progress of public works, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) reported.

The BCR specified that, given this result, the activity advanced 4.5% in the first seven months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.

Dynamism

The Central Reserve Bank also detailed that, in the seventh month of this year, the progress of public works increased by 30.6% due to greater investment from the central government, as well as from regional and local ones.

By type of works, investment increased in the construction of non-residential buildings, risk prevention works, basic services, and road infrastructure.

Cement consumption

For its part, domestic cement consumption decreased by 0.5% in July due to lower demand in the Peruvian north and south.

On the other hand, Unacem shipments increased by 2.7% due to higher bulk shipments, which grew by 20.2%.
