The Second Office of the Lava Jato Case Special Prosecution Group, led by Provincial Prosecutor Norma Mori, has requested the preventive detention of Odebrecht company's ex-Director in Peru, Jorge Barata, for a period of 36 months.

This measure was taken after including the Brazilian citizen in the preparatory investigation of the case known as Gasoducto Sur Peruano (Southern Gas Pipeline), whose deadline expires next September.

Said request is also taken considering the procedural conduct and revocation of the plea agreement.

According to the Public Ministry, on July 8, the Prosecutor's Office issued a statement regarding the legal situation of the defendant, Barata, in his capacity as an accomplice to the crime of aggravated collusion to the detriment of the Peruvian State.

He is said to have favored the Brazilian company Odebrecht in the awarding of the Gasoducto Sur Peruano (Southern Gas Pipeline) project, as well as in the return of the guarantee letter for the Gasoducto Andino del Sur (Southern Andean Gas Pipeline) project.

It should be noted that Jorge Barata, in his statement via judicial cooperation, "does not acknowledge the factual events under investigation, diverging from aspects outlined in the framework of the effective collaboration that is in the execution phase."

Similarly, on May 24, the preliminary testimony of witness Jose Alejandro Graña Miro Quesada was concluded, who incriminated Barata in the aforementioned projects.
