It’s never too early to start your trip planning for 2013, and according to Lonely Planet, one of the must-see destinations in the upcoming year is Peru’s Kueláp /Chachapoyas region.

Lonely Planet’s list of the Top 10 regions to visit in 2013 included Chachapoyas and Kueláp in fifth place.

The famed travel publishing house dubbed the area the “Hidden gem of the Andes” and gushed that, “the charming agricultural centre sits amid some of the country’s most incredible cultural and natural treasures, including an entire river valley’s worth of pre-Inca ruins, the funerary site of Karajía, and one of the world’s tallest waterfalls.”

Lonely Planet also stated that the region’s isolation would not last long, due to improvements in the infrastructure.

The top-rated region was France’s Corsica. Chachapoyas was the only region in Latin America to be included on the list, website Peruthisweek.com reported.

Chachapoyas was once the center of a pre-Inca empire of the same name. The city and its nearby attractions are located about 20 hours away from Lima by bus.
