Peru's agricultural exports continue their upward trend. In the first seven months of this year, said sales totaled US$5.12 billion, an increase of 22.9% compared to the same period in 2021, the
Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) reported on Monday.
Exports of non-traditional agricultural products totaled US$4.562 billion between January and July, up 14.4% over the same period last year.
In this case, the products that stood out in the agricultural-exports ranking in said period were avocados, which totaled US$712 million and accounted for 15.6% of total sales, fresh grapes (US$600 million; 13.2%), fresh mangoes (US$208 million; 4.6%), fresh cranberries (US$198 million; 4.3%), and fresh or chilled asparagus (US$151 million; 3.3%).
Other products that stood out in the ranking include animal feed, whose sales amounted to US$133 million and made up 2.9% of the total, frozen mangoes (US$128 million; 2.8%), other citrus fruits (US$115 million; 2.5%), other fresh fruits (US$90 million; 2%), crude palm oil (US$75 million (1.6%), bananas including plantains (US$73 million; 1.6%), and other cacao beans (US$69 million; 1.5%).
Together, these 12 products accounted for 56% of the non-traditional exportable supply.
Between January and July this year, the products that contributed the most to this increase included fresh grapes (31.7%), fresh cranberries (119.6%), crude palm oil (199.4%), tara seed mucilage (149.2%), animal feed (26.7%), ethyl alcohol (72.2%), frozen mangoes (20.0%), palm oil and its fractions (141.4%), other algae (74.0%), and other citrus fruits (15.6%).
Midagri underlined that, within the basket of non-traditional products, sales of fruits and vegetables reached US$2.644 billion (58% of non-traditional agricultural exports) as of July 2022, an increase of 4.1% compared to the same period in 2021.
Traditional exports
The government agency stated that traditional agricultural exports totaled US$588 million, up 212.2% from 2021, due to higher exports of unroasted coffee without decaffeination (US$529 million) and cane molasses (US$4.4 million), whose sales increased 255.7% and 14.1%, respectively.
