PeruSat national satellite will serve to reinforce national defense and face criminal acts such as organized crime and drug-trafficking, Defense Minister Jorge Nieto announced on Thursday.
The said satellite will also be used for civil matters, since it will boost development across several State sectors as culture, environment, mining, and agriculture, among others.
"PeruSat-1 is the prodigious result of cooperation efforts undertaken by France and Peru. It is also the outcome of efforts jointly made by military and civil talent […]," Nieto indicated.
"It strengthens our national defense capacity as well," he added.
Starting today, the PeruSat-1 will be only operated by Peruvian engineers from State-run National Commission for Aerospace Research and Development (Conida).
According to French Ambassador to Peru Fabrice Mauriès, said operational launch represents the latest milestone in Peru's satellite system project.
"From now on, it officially enables Peru and its Special Agency to operate the PeruSat-1 under full sovereignty […]," he explained.
As is known, PeruSat-1 is able to detect and photograph any object on Earth's surface measuring at least 70 cm.
