The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) will finance a forest landscape improvement project along the Tarapoto–Yurimaguas corridor in northern Peruvian Amazon.

The initiative is part of a four-proposal package and involves an investment of US$50 million.

Socialization work at this stage will include contributions from involved parties in San Martin and Loreto regions.

The project is set to begin in September this year, said Fernando Vasquez, of the National Forest Conservation Program for Mitigation against Climate Change.

The project design began in September 2016, and it is being developed with the support of Economy and Finance Ministry (MEF), national and regional indigenous organizations, public institutions and the IDB.

The profile was developed using available resources and taking care over competences aimed at generating impacts.

The project was launched in Moyobamba city, and featured representatives from San Martin Regional Government, Regional Environmental Authority (ARA), public and private institutions, as well as indigenous organizations, associations and communities involved in the preservation of natural resources.
