The world's best university rewards Peruvian for products made from insects

09:04 | Mexico City (Mexico), Feb. 4.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) —considered the No. 1 university in the world ranking— granted the title of MIT "Innovator Under 35" to Peruvian Agrarian University La Molina (UNALM) graduate —engineer Eduardo Lama— for having led an innovative application of biotechnology to develop sustainable insect-based protein.

Lama was publicly recognized on January 30 at the BBVA bank in Mexico City, where the 35 innovation leaders of the year were rewarded. It must be noted they had been chosen from more than 2,000 applications.

It should be noted that the same prize had been obtained —in the past— by Google co-founder Larry Page, PayPal co-founder Max Levchin, Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, and Voice 123 co-founder Alexander Torrenegra.

The engineer is part of the team of Ento Piruw —the first company in Peru that produces food based on insects. Ento Piruw uses insects suitable for human consumption such as: Tenebrio molitor and crickets, as suggested by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

Demolitor is the first product made by that company. It is formulated with finely-selected natural ingredients and contains Tenebrio molitor insect powder (recognized worldwide for its high levels of iron and protein).

Each bar is deemed as the best option for any time throughout the day, since it supplements the nutrition, whether at the office, university, or gym.

The iron contained in Demolitor improves oxygenation, which is reflected in an increase in the performance throughout the day. Also, the high level of protein is a source for muscle regeneration.

Demolitor is chemical-free and has the Demolitor Green Protein line, a vegan option that contains spirulina powder as a source of nutrients.
