President: Peru purchases 12 million additional Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines

Peru inked a new contract for the acquisition of 12 million doses of the vaccine against COVID-19, the President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti announced on Wednesday.

The Head of State specified that Health Minister Oscar Ugarte signed this agreement earlier today for the purchase of additional doses from Pfizer pharmaceutical company.

This will enable the vaccination process to remain operational until the end of 2021.

The top official paused the session of the Council of Ministers to record this announcement, which was shared via social media of the Presidency of the Republic.

"Good news for Peru!" the president wrote on Twitter.

"This will be delivered before the end of the year. Thus, we complete 60 million doses to immunize all Peruvians prior to the end of the year," he expressed.

Mr. Sagasti also deemed as possible using these vaccines to benefit those aged above 18, since this drug has started being inoculated to this segment of the population in other countries.
