12:15 | Lima, Apr. 19.

The remains of the deceased ex-President of Peru, Alan Garcia Perez, were carried along the streets of downtown Lima joined by APRA party supporters.

As reported by the media, the closest relatives and friends were allowed to carry the coffin.

The funeral cortege passed along Alfonso Ugarte Avenue before reaching Dos de Mayo roundabout.

The procession then headed to San Martin Square, where more party members were waiting to say goodbye.

Afterwards, the two-time President of Peru —who served between 1985 and 1990 and also from 2006 to 2011— was taken to Huachipa's Camposanto Mapfre Cemetery, where his remains will be cremated this afternoon.

Alan Garcia died on Wednesday in the nation's capital city at the age of 69 over a self-inflicted shot to the head.

The ex-Head of State shot himself in the morning after authorities arrived at his home with a 10-day preliminary detention order against him linked to the Odebrecht corruption case investigation.

The Inca country's Executive Branch has declared three days —April 17-19— of national mourning for the death of the ex-President.
