Some 40,000 Peruvian fans expected in Brazil for Copa America

14:30 | Lima, Jun. 6.

Some 40,000 Peruvians will head to Brazil to support their national team during the 2019 Copa America, the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur) estimated on Thursday.

Around 3,000 packages —including tickets for each event— have been sold so far, and the plan is to sell 5,000, according to Canatur Chairman Carlos Canales.

Additionally, some 35,000 soccer fans are expected to flock to Brazil for the upcoming Conmebol tournament, bearing in mind that a good number of Peruvians are already making their way to Belo Horizonte from Cusco, Puno, and Tacna cities.

How much will it cost to get to the event?

Canales explained that the 3,000 Peruvians —who bought the Copa America packages— are consumers with a high purchasing power, as they will spend between US$3,000 and US$5,000 during this event.

On the other hand, the remaining 35,000 are to spend between US$500 and US$1,000.

Peruvians are staying 10-12 days in Brazil to attend the games, although their stay will depend on the national team's performance and progress at the Copa America.

The 2019 Copa America will be held in Brazil between June 14 and July 2, 2019. The tournament is organized by the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) —the governing body of soccer in South America and one of FIFA's affiliated associations.

It will be the fifth time the Copa America is being held in Brazil, with the country previously hosting in 1989.

Defending champion Chile won the 2016 tournament by defeating Argentina.
