The British-Australian actress and singer Olivia Newton-John passed away on Monday morning at the age of 73. Consequently, displays of affection, sorrow, and recognition for her career have increased greatly, as well as the memories of the steps she took during her life.

One of the most remembered events that directly involves Peru was her private wedding to U.S. businessman John Easterling, during a secret ceremony held in Cusco back in 2007, as reported by Hola magazine at that time and later confirmed by the actress herself.

The Inca-style ceremony was held in Quechua on a mountain near the Peruvian jungle on June 21, 2007.

Olivia Newton-John wore an Inca wedding blanket, while her husband wore a poncho from Cusco.

After the ceremony, the couple enjoyed their honeymoon exploring the Inca citadel in Cusco for a week.

"John is an extraordinary person; he is kind, sweet, and loving. He has a lot of integrity and is very authentic. Besides, I feel deeply in love with him. He is very considerate and attentive. He is one in a million, and I could not be more delighted that he is mine," the actress said in the interview with Hola in 2007.

"I am the happiest woman in the world," said Newton-John, who was 59 years old at that time.

Later, on July 4, the "You're The One That I Want" singer caught her friends and followers by surprise with a second wedding ceremony at her Malibu home.

After that, in an interview in 2016, the singer revealed details of her ties with Peru and explained the reasons that led her tie the knot in Cusco.

"My husband, John (Easterling), and I took a holiday in Peru with a few mutual friends, and we fell in love on that trip," she remarked.

"A year later, we went back to the top of the mountain and got married. John has been traveling to Peru for over twenty years, and he showed me how special it is to be there," Newton-John stated.

"It is so beautiful and pure. Besides, it represents us as a couple, since it is where we really fell in love," she concluded.
