The latest edition of the Vacunafest began this morning and will end on Sunday at 7:00 p.m., thus lasting 36 uninterrupted hours to prioritize citizens who require the second dose against COVID-19 in Metropolitan Lima and Callao, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) has confirmed.

On this occasion, citizens aged 25 and over are allowed to join the mega immunization event.

In this sense, a campaign was launched to close gaps in terms of second doses by encouraging the attendance of people to vaccination centers and finding those who have not completed their vaccination.

Health Minister Hernando Cevallos pointed out that there are 3.8 million people who require the second dose. Out of that total, 2.9 million are within the 21-day period, while 899,000 have exceeded this timeframe.

Across the country

Minsa's Immunization Director Gabriela Jimenez reported that the vaccination event will also last 36 hours in regions' capitals and 12 hours in smaller districts.

People with comorbidities, including type 1 and 2 diabetes, as well as those with type 3 obesity —who have not received the first dose— are expected to attend.

Pregnant women who have not been vaccinated and those with comorbidities —who have not received the second dose— can also be inoculated on this occasion.

Furthermore, Jimenez indicated that the goal is to administer more than 900,000 doses nationwide.

Vaccination centers

According to Minsa, there are at least 74 vaccination centers available in Metropolitan Lima and Callao.
