President Vizcarra: Coronavirus cases rise to 671 in Peru

President Martin Vizcarra on Saturday afternoon confirmed that coronavirus (COVID-19) cases have increased to 671 in Peru —out of a total of 10,896 samples taken.


According to the Head of State, the positive cases represent slightly over 6% of the total number of people who were tested.

The top official indicated that 84 patients are hospitalized (15 in clinics, 3 in Armed Force hospitals, 28 at establishments run by the Health Ministry, and 38 in health care centers belonging to the Social Health Insurance System-EsSalud).

Of those hospitalized, 33 remain in Intensive Care Units, 30 of them are connected to mechanical ventilation, whereas 31 are evolving positively.

The statesman recalled that confronting the coronavirus demands an articulated effort by State-run institutions, private companies, and the responsible attitude of each citizen.



On this occasion, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.

Saturday marks the thirteenth day of mandatory social isolation.
