Poll: 79% of Peruvians believe President Vizcarra should stay in office

79% of the population believes that Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra should remain in office, the latest Ipsos poll revealed on Tuesday.

The survey, published in El Comercio newspaper, shows that 8 out of 10 Peruvians consider that Mr. Vizcarra should continue as Head of State, and that 57% of the population approves of his job performance.

When asked about the President's behavior recorded on the "Richard Cisneros" tapes, 41% of respondents said that it is an incorrect behavior but not a serious misconduct. Therefore, they think the President should apologize and be investigated at the end of his term on July 28, 2021.

19% of those surveyed indicate that the Head of State has not committed an offense and that everything is a plot hatched by a sector of the opposition.

On the other hand, 28% of the population claims that it is a serious misconduct and that Mr. Vizcarra might have lied, although he should be investigated by the Judiciary when his mandate ends, whereas 9% of Peruvians report that it is a very serious misconduct and that he should be impeached or should resign.

Likewise, the survey reveals that 72% of those polled disapprove of Manuel Merino's job performance as Congress Chairman, while 19% approve of it.
