PM: Peru to focus efforts on recovering family income and jobs

10:41 | Lima, Aug. 3.

The Government's economic plan to speed up the recovery of family income in Peru will prioritize four main guidelines in the next 12 months, Prime Minister Pedro Cateriano announced on Monday during his presentation before the Congress of the Republic.

The four guidelines are listed below:

i) Protection of families and their income.

ii) Private investment as an engine of economic growth within the framework of a social market economy according to the Constitution.

iii) Sector-based policies to boost economic growth.

iv) Public investment as a stimulant for the economy.

According to the President of the Council of Ministers, a set of measures worth over S/8 billion (around US$2.26 billion) will be adopted to mitigate the negative impact of COVID-19 in the remainder of the year.

"This injection of resources —equivalent to over 1 percentage point of GDP— will help support household consumption —while employment recovers— and moderate the crisis impact on poverty," he expressed.
