The delivery of the initial memorandum, which ratifies the Peruvian State's will to join the
Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), constitutes a first major step for the economy and governance of Peru,
Prime Minister Alberto Otarola affirmed.
"Starting today (June 7), Peru is one step closer to entering the major leagues of the global economy and governance. We delivered the initial memorandum for the process of accession to the OECD," he wrote on Twitter, after submitting said document in Paris.
The Peruvian Prime Minister emphasized that the accession process reflects the Executive Branch's effort to continue working for the development of the country.
"Let us continue targeting major goals because our history and country deserve it," he added.
During said meeting, Peruvian officials spoke with high-ranking French authorities, who expressed their support for Peru's incorporation into the OECD.
About the OECD
The OECD is an international organization made up of 38 States, among which are countries with the highest development levels worldwide.
The body works with governments in the assessment, diagnosis, and formulation of recommendations, standards, as well as the exchange of good practices.
The process of accession to the OECD was declared of national interest by means of
Supreme Decree No. 041-2023-PCM, which created the permanent multisectoral commission in charge of monitoring actions to this effect.
